Mrs. Hogan
Mrs. Hogan is a teacher of Courtney Vincent and Charles Thompson who expects honest effort from students. When Charles struggles to understand poetry, embarrassment leads him to copy Courtney's answers and buy a poem from Rusty Gordon. Mrs. Hogan recognizes the purchased verse from a greeting card and gives Charles a failing grade, along with consequences at school and home. Her response forces him to face why cheating felt safer than asking for help. Charles finally accepts tutoring from Courtney and learns that having a weakness is not the same as being humiliated. Firm and observant, Mrs. Hogan protects the value of learning by refusing to reward borrowed work, while leaving Charles room to become honest about what he does not yet understand.
