Mr. Gardner

Mr. Gardner is Jimmy Barclay's landlord and employer at Society Scandal, a Washington tabloid. He sends Jimmy over fences with a camera to capture embarrassing photographs and measures a reporter's value by the scandal produced. When Connie interrupts one assignment and costs Jimmy the picture, Gardner fires him immediately. He offers another chance only if Jimmy investigates the Stand Your Ground Christian Men's Assembly organized by Jimmy's own father. After Jimmy refuses to smear the event, Gardner takes away both his job and housing. He later offers the position back with another moral price attached. Gardner's pressure forces Jimmy to decide whether protecting the false appearance of success is worth trading away family trust, truth, and personal integrity.
