Evelyn

Evelyn is Whit's talkative cousin and a visitor who rarely leaves space for anyone else to speak. Whit tries repeatedly to enter their conversation, but Evelyn's constant stream of words keeps sweeping past every opening. Her visit unfolds while Connie, Eugene, Liz, and Trent are all learning how poorly they listen to the people around them. Evelyn provides the funniest and most extreme example: a conversation so one-sided that Whit can barely complete a sentence. Although she is affectionate and eager to share, her chatter shows that talking with someone requires more than being in the same room. Real attention includes pausing, noticing the other person, and allowing their thoughts to matter too.
