Elise

Elise is a clown who leaves her traveling troupe and disguises herself as a funnel-cake seller at the same carnival. She has written a revealing book about clown traditions and secrets, hoping the money will pay for her daughter's medical education. Although her motive grows from concern for her family, she is ashamed of betraying the performers who trusted her. Rather than travel far away, Elise hides near the troupe because she cannot face them. Her situation comes to light when Connie Kendall infiltrates the clowns while searching for a dramatic story. Elise's confession helps Connie recognize that true and fascinating information can still harm people when it is shared without their permission.
