Elimelech

Elimelech was Naomi's husband and the father of Mahlon and Chilion. During a severe famine near Bethlehem, he refused help from his wealthy cousin Oren because he feared losing the family's land. Instead, he moved his family to Moab despite Naomi's concerns and Boaz's warning about the nation's false gods. Before leaving, Elimelech entrusted the property to Boaz for his descendants. In Moab, he arranged marriages between his sons and the Moabite women Ruth and Orpah. During a family celebration, Elimelech collapsed and admitted that leaving Israel had been wrong. He asked Naomi to teach their daughters-in-law about God before he died. His choices shaped the hardship, faith, and loyalty that followed.
