Edna Platt

Edna Platt is the careful, by-the-book social worker assigned to Buck Oliver's foster case while his regular caseworker is away. Her inspections make Eugene and Katrina nervous, but she treats small household problems as matters that can be corrected. After Buck is injured in an unfinished treehouse, Edna follows the required procedures and explains that the accident must be reviewed by a judge. She never loses sight of Buck's safety, yet she is also willing to listen when he explains why the Meltsners matter to him. Later, Edna brings the family difficult news when a biological relative asks to adopt Buck. Her work often places her between regulations and a family's deepest hopes.
