Duncan Mathis
Duncan Mathis is a scientist who has been quadriplegic for twelve years. As both researcher and test subject in Eugene's radio-wave study at Campbell College, he helped prove that brain waves could control a computer cursor and type words without physical movement. The breakthrough promised greater freedom for people with disabilities. Duncan became alarmed when outside sponsors asked whether the process could be reversed so radio waves could alter human thoughts. He also experienced the NovaBox technology's dangerous weakness: its temporary benefits eventually fade and leave users worse than before. Duncan urges Jason to make that warning public. He values the truth more than false hope, even when his sister Monica believes the research might restore his mobility.
