Donny McCoy

Donny McCoy is a small boy who attends Camp What-A-Nut and dreads being mocked as Shorty. Wealthy camper Chas Wentworth trips and belittles him, while sports and other camp activities seem to emphasize every disadvantage of his size. Whit reminds Donny that God chose David by looking at his heart rather than his appearance. During a frightening walk in the forest, Donny and Whit escape a mother bear but become lost. Donny volunteers to climb a tall, swaying tree because his small size makes him the safest person for the job. He spots the camp and guides them home. His resourcefulness earns the other campers' respect and helps him see that a supposed weakness can become a special strength.
