Della McKinley
Della McKinley is a friendly college-bound applicant for a job at Whit's End. She plans to study Christian education, comes with glowing references, and has extensive experience helping children as the oldest of eight siblings and a toddler Sunday school teacher. During a trial shift, Della handles every staged crisis with calm skill. She serves cheerfully, resolves a children's argument with a proverb about generosity, cleans a spill without complaint, and hosts an impromptu hymn program with perfect pitch. On paper and in practice, she seems like the ideal employee. Connie ultimately chooses a different applicant because Whit's End may have more to teach him. Della's impressive showing still reveals a capable, generous young woman whose maturity and service make her welcome almost anywhere.
