Brock Blakley

Brock Blakley is a fifteen year old school bully who shoves Jared, humiliates him, and uses fear to control other students. His cruelty leaves him isolated even before he speaks. Through Whit's Transmuter, Jared experiences a day with Brock's face and discovers the pain hidden behind the behavior. Brock secretly tends a flower garden at home, only to have his drunken father tear it apart while he begs him to stop. The abuse does not excuse Brock's treatment of others, but it reveals that the bully is also a hurting boy with nowhere safe to place tenderness. Harsh and feared at school, Brock protects a private love of growing things that points to a person very different from the identity he performs.
