Ben Huck

Ben Huck is one of young John Avery Whittaker's closest friends and helps him clear neglected records from Enoch's town hall. While they work, Ben shares John's frustration at watching Constant Bullfinch Day rehearsals across the street. When hidden documents reveal that the town's famous hero was actually Constance Bullfinch, Ben agrees she deserves public credit. He still urges John to wait until after the celebration, knowing how much the event means to local families during the Depression. Ben's concern is practical rather than dishonest: he wants the truth told without needlessly hurting neighbors. He also stands with the Whittaker family beside the icy Enoch River, beaming as John is baptized and begins a new chapter of faith.
