Balaam

Balaam was a greedy prophet who served King Balak and traveled through the desert on a stubborn donkey. Focused on reward and his own plans, he failed to see the angel standing in the road with a drawn sword. His donkey saw the danger and repeatedly turned aside, protecting its rider from destruction. Balaam responded by striking the animal until God allowed it to speak. The talking donkey challenged his cruelty and prepared him to recognize the heavenly messenger blocking his path. Balaam's strange journey overturns ordinary expectations: the prophet is blind to God's warning while the animal understands enough to obey. His experience shows that spiritual position and confident purpose do not guarantee wisdom when greed makes a person unwilling to notice correction.
