Ahithophel

Ahithophel was one of King David's most trusted counselors before betraying him for Prince Absalom's rebellion. Brilliant and influential, he guided the young usurper after Absalom seized Jerusalem. Ahithophel urged him to send twelve thousand men immediately against David's exhausted followers, kill the king, and crush resistance before it could recover. David's loyal friend Hushai pretended to support Absalom and offered a slower, more flattering plan. Absalom rejected Ahithophel's sounder military advice in favor of leading a great army himself. Realizing that the rebellion had lost its best opportunity, Ahithophel took his own life. His intelligence could identify the strongest strategy, but wisdom without loyalty placed that gift in service to treachery. He stands as a warning that excellent counsel can still advance a wicked cause.
