This is just a reminder that Jacob from the Odyssey Scoop has a mind blowing announcement/feature/thing-a-majig to unveil this Tuesday. I honestly haven't got a clue what it is, but he promises that it will blow your mind. So that's always exciting!

Also, some people might have noticed Oneplace didn't list this weekend's show properly. If that's the case, here's a direct link: "No Way In". I'll remove this link once Oneplace gets everything sorted out (they would prefer we don't link to the shows directly, which is understandable).

Today was the day of the season for Adventures in Odyssey. Fans spent much of the week speculating over at The Town Hall about what to expect, but were they right? Coast on over to Oneplace and find out, then surf on back here for my full review of "No Way Out / No Way In".

So that wraps up, without question, the strongest non-story arc season in years. Few of the shows were jaw-dropping terrific, but more importantly they weren't hit and miss each week like they were in the past. The quality of each show was consistent, and I'm happy to be an AIO fan. I also don't think it would be much of a stretch to predict next season is going to be even better. The oft-used cliche of Whit's will once again be employed here: The Best is Yet to Come.

May 23, 2004
I received two emails yesterday asking why I didn't review "No Way Out" like the Odyssey Scoop or Dave's AIO Site did. I guess I just don't see how it's possible to review something that isn't completed. It would be like trying to review a movie you've only seen half of, or critique a novel that you didn't finish reading. I could very well have written up a review of the first part, but the second part of the show will heavily influence my overall opinion of the story.

Besides... I was able to use the free time to work some more on the database. And that's always a good thing ;o) Check back this Saturday for my review of "No Way Out / No Way In".

"No Way Out" aired today. You can check it out at Oneplace. Since it's a two-parter, my review won't be posted until next week, though I do have the episode information already up. So far it sounds pretty predictable and I have a good idea exactly what's going on... I guess I'll find out if I'm right next week when "No Way In" airs.

Also, I'm quite sure now that the database won't be completed by the beginning of June. It's very extensive and I'm finding I don't make very much progress no matter how many hours I spend on it at this point in time. I'm now going to shoot for a June 22 release date... one month from today. If it's finished before then, I'll have it posted before.

Not much AIO related news today, but the Calgary Flames defeated San Jose in game 6 last night to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals! They are the first Canadian team in 10 years to get to the final round, and it's very exciting considering the Flames were the underdogs heading into these playoffs. In fact, they were an 85-1 Las Vegas Odds for winning the Stanley Cup at the end of last season, having not even been in the playoffs in 8 seasons. They defeated the number one Detroit Red Wings, number two San Jose Sharks, and number three Vancouver Canucks to get to the final round... congratulations Flames! They will face the winner in the Eastern Conference (either Tampa Bay or Philadelphia) in a best of seven matchup starting next Tuesday. I guess you'll just have to tolerate that flaming 'C' for one more round (promise)! :o)

In other AIO Fan Site news, the webmaster of Frank's Breakfast Inn has posted detailed and quirky reviews for the last several episodes that have aired. She's also posted some articles which are also enjoyable to read so check it out!

And over at The Odyssey Scoop, webmaster Jacob Isom is promising to launch something on June 1 that will "blow your mind". I have no idea what it is (unless it's related to that clue he dropped on May 3), so that's something to look forward to.

And me? Well, I continue to work on the infamous database. For you stat mongers out there, the section is roughly 75% complete in the actor department, 95% complete in the major character department, and 5% complete in the minor character department. The text based files are currently sitting at 1.3 MB and will continue to grow each day. To put things in perspective, this entire site (minus images) is 3.2 MB. It doesn't take a math expert to realize this section will be huge and will be unlike anything you've seen in the past on any other AIO site. I'm still aiming for an early June release, but again, I didn't plan on the minor characters taking me so long. Just stayed tuned for the latest! :o)

I've spent the last couple of days working on the actor/character database. Unfortunately, I majorly underestimated the time it would take to complete minor characters. This doesn't necessarily mean I won't be able to release it on the first of June, but it's definitely thrown a wrench in the process. I want the feature to be perfect and as detailed as possible, so I'm willing to spend as much time as I need before I release it... if that means it will take longer than expected, so be it. But in the end, I know you're all going to love it!

And the season marches on as "Something's Got to Change" is broadcast over the airwaves. After listening to the episode at Oneplace (or on your local radio station), come on back and read my review of the show.

In other news, work contains on the new actor/character database. It's coming along very well and it should be released on time. Over one hundred 'major' characters have been completed (characters who appear in 3 or more episodes), and starting tonight I begin on the 'minor' characters. I'm really excited about how it's shaping up and I think fans are going to love it... it's just huge.

The Official Site has posted previews for both "Something's Got to Change" and "No Way Out". The former sounds like your typical slice of life show, in the Barclay family vein, and "No Way Out" sounds unlike anything we've ever heard before.

The Jetson's season one on DVD was released today. What does this have to do with AIO? Janet Waldo, the voice of both Maureen Hodges and Joanne Allen, provides commentary on two of the episodes. She played Judy Jetson, the daughter of the Jetson family. For more information check out this link.

Gandalf over at The Town Hall has posted information about the teaser for "No Way Out":

On the next Adventures in Odyssey, Whit is trapped in a windowless and doorless room with a troubled man named Lester. And Whit is fading fast. Meanwhile, Jason continues to search for his dad. Will they find Whit in time? It's an eventful and chilling mystery on the next Adventures in Odyssey!

I was told this show is unlike anything we've ever heard before... and from that description, it sounds like it! Also, for those who haven't heard "A Name, Not a Number I & II", (understandable as it has only ever aired on the radio once... a decade ago), it will be airing this Thursday and Friday in the AIO time slot. So you can either listen to it on the radio or Oneplace later this week. It's one of AIO's most popular episodes.

A couple things to discuss today. First of all, Oneplace has "Split Ends" available for your listening pleasure. Afterward, come back and check out my take on the show.

Secondly, The Official Site has posted a form that you can fill out if you purchased albums 4 and 5 but did not get the insert that was promised on the cover. Inserts for album 1 - 3 are still unavailable, but may be available at a later date.

Thirdly, if you happen to have pictures of any of the actors who have been involved with Adventures in Odyssey, I'd love to have them. As my actor database continues to grow, it becomes more apparent I'm missing quite a large majority of actor head shots. So if you do have a snap shot or know where I can find images of any of the actors, please let me know.

May 07, 2004
"Split Ends" airs tomorrow. According to the description at The Official Site:

Mandy and Liz find that they will be competing against each other to get a spot in a commercial.

Sounds like an interesting concept and it's nice to see Mandy and Liz are still feuding. And on another note, work on that actor database I keep talking about is going very well so far. Once it's complete, I promise this site to be the most comprehensive Adventures in Odyssey website on the web... including The Official Site and AIOHQ. Yes, it'll be that big. So stay tuned... I still plan on releasing it beginning of June.

The exhaustive list of characters has been added to each and every episode. That's 543 episodes, with a full list of characters in order of appearance. I have a handful of shows left to finish up (I don't have access to them yet), but it's basically completed. The spelling of names is accurate to the point that they are the way the writers originally wrote them, and as I systematically went through each and every episode, the lists are very accurate. I'm human, and I'm sure I've made some mistakes in some areas, but for the most part the lists should be the most accurate you'll find. So head over to the Episode Guide and start your browsing! Here's a legend to get you started:

All characters are listed in order of appearance, provided a character's name can be retrieved from either the episode itself, or the source material. Characters that appear with { } around their name do not exist in the current Adventures in Odyssey timeline. For example, characters met in the Imagination Station or Room of Consequence typically fall into this category. This is also the case for characters who appear on B-TV or Kid's Radio. People who died before the current AIO timeline started (such as Timmy Riley, Jenny Whittaker, or Jerry Whittaker), also fall into this category. There's also a special symbol [ ] which is used for computer roles (such as MABEL, AREM, and BEAVRS).

Currently, there isn't an alphabetical list to pick from like you'll find on the AIOHQ. This is coming as part of the actor database which I've begun compiling. I'll keep you posted on it's status.

A new month, a new episode, a new day. "Nothing But the Half Truth" was broadcast all over North America today, featuring everyone's favorite character: Wooton Bassett! If you can't check out the episode on the radio, head over to Oneplace as usual and give her a listen. (Provided episodes are female... otherwise you could give him a listen, which sounds far too wrong). My review is up, nothing special this time around... just your average review for your average episode. As much as I'd love to write glowing reviews, I'd definitely prefer average over subpar. Also, everything is on track for a May 3 launch for my character lists. Just a few years left to do!
